Metro High School
Graphic Design I Branding I Event Activation I Non-Profit
CONTEXT:
Although Metro High School has had high academic success since its inception in 1972/73, its athletic facilities - especially the school’s gym floor - have not kept pace with the school’s high standards. Metro’s athletic facilities and programs have been neglected despite the school’s athletic successes over the years.
Insight:
Everything has an expiration date. Gym floors typically have a lifespan of 15-20 years. Metro’s gym floor is more than double past that lifespan, making it one of the worst gyms in St. Louis. Additionally, Metro’s school logo is outdated as are its athletic uniforms.
IDEA:
Because Metro’s gym floor is in desperate need of replacement, we are creating a city-wide 3-on-3 basketball tournament to raise awareness and funds: Arch City 3x3. The tournament will be played OUTSIDE in the school’s parking lot due to Metro’s worn and nearly unplayable gym floor facilities. The event, open to a wide range of ages and skill levels, will drive community involvement with Metro. High-profile corporate sponsorships and exciting skills contests with prizes will attract participants throughout the St. Louis area.
New Tournament Logo
Inspired by the many street artists in and around St. Louis, we wanted the event logo to be a subtle reflection of the retro style designs that can be seen throughout street art. The arch embedded within the logo’s negative space is representative of the St. Louis Arch.
QR Code + Website:
The QR Code will be placed on sidewalks and posters everywhere in St. Louis in the hopes of driving traffic and registrations to our event website. It really works. Go ahead try it out!
New School Logo
A new Metro High School logo was created to reflect the school’s modernization. The updated design includes elements of the original logo and now incorporates the school mascot.
